Privacy Policy

This page describes what data Truffle (the Mac app) and truffle.app (this website) collect, how it's used, and your rights. We collect as little as possible, by design.

The Mac app collects zero file data.

The Truffle Mac app reads your files on your own machine to organize them. No file content, filenames, or metadata ever leave your Mac. Categorization happens locally — rule-based always, and with Apple's on-device Foundation Models when your Mac supports them. There is no backend server.

The app sends the following minimal signals to our analytics provider (PostHog):

• Anonymous product events: app_launched, feature_used, tier_detected, and exception reports — all free of filenames and file content
• macOS version and hardware class (so we can prioritize fixes for your tier)
• A randomly generated device identifier for distinguishing one install from another; never linked to your name, email, or files

No account or email is required to use the app.

This website (truffle.app) uses privacy-friendly analytics.

We use PostHog to understand how people find and use the landing page. By default, PostHog runs in memory-only mode on first visit — no cookies or local storage are written until you interact with the page. On first click, basic analytics storage is enabled.

Data collected:

• Pageviews, clicks, scroll depth, referrer
• City-level geolocation derived from your IP (the raw IP is not retained)
• Your Mac's hardware class and macOS version (from the compatibility checker, to help size our audience)
• Email address, if and only if you submit the "Notify me at V1" form

If you enter your email to join the V1 launch waitlist, that email is stored in Loops, our email provider. We'll send you at most a couple of emails — a welcome confirmation and one launch announcement when V1 ships. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

We will never sell, rent, or give your email to anyone.

Payments (V1 only — not during the beta).

When V1 launches, purchases will be processed by Lemon Squeezy, a Merchant of Record. Lemon Squeezy collects your billing details and handles tax compliance. We receive your email, country, and the fact that you purchased — nothing else.

Your rights.

You can:

• Request deletion of your email from Loops by clicking unsubscribe, or by emailing support@truffle.app
• Request export or deletion of your analytics data by emailing the same address — we'll honor the request within 30 days
• Disable analytics entirely by using your browser's Do Not Track / content-blocker setting; PostHog honors both

Changes to this policy.

If we change how we collect data in a material way, we'll update this page and email people who have signed up for the V1 list before the change takes effect.
